Virtual Reality: What is it?

img_0010I’ve been ignoring the myriad of news links I keep seeing about virtual reality, because didn’t we do this before in the 90s? And wasn’t it creepy and clunky?

While virtual reality has been around since the 1960s, and maybe before, it became popular in the 80s and 90s. So when I started hearing about it again, I wondered if it was just another weird fad.

But it turns out that virtual reality has a lot going for it this time, not the least of which is that many people have a smart phone that can easily be turned into a virtual reality device with cardboard. In fact, the New York Times sent out thousands of cardboard devices to all of their subscribers so that they could see NYT virtual reality content.

This month I will be exploring more about virtual reality, making, and education.
