So, if virtual reality isn’t “making” yet, what purpose does it serve in education?
Virtual reality offers more than video games. It’s an opportunity for a point-of-inspiration field trips and scientific exploration. What if your students could walk on the moon, or Mars? (Mrs. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus, anyone?) What if they could swim around the Great Barrier Reef? What if they could visit the White House, or the Great Wall of China? What if they could go back in time?
The curricular possibilities are endless, and a few companies are starting to develop content in these areas. I expect we’ll see much more in the next few years, but it’s not too early to start experimenting. Get some Google Cardboards and try it out with your students!
